Republican murals 2020 -

2020. Divis Street, Belfast

George Floyd was stopped by four policemen in Minneapolis in May 2020. While three of the police looked on, one - Derek Chauvin - knelt on George Floyd's neck until he died. Floyd had repeatedly pleaded with Chauvin: 'I can't breathe'. The global Black Lives Matter mobilisation followed in response to George Floyd's death and that of other African-Americans at the hands of the police.

In June 2021 the largest Cuban flag ever produced was displayed on Black Mountain, west Belfast, by the Cuba Solidarity Forum Ireland and Gael Force Art. The mural quotes the approval of Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Bermudéz and indicates that Che Guevara would also have been pleased.

2022. Victoria Parade, Belfast

Two republicans, John-Paul Wootton and Brendan McConville, were jailed in 2012 for the murder of police constable Stephen Carroll, the first officer killed since the Good Friday Agreement. Both have consistently protested their innocence.
On 31 June 2020, 14-year old Noah Donohoe went missing in North Belfast. Six days later his naked body was discovered in a storm drain. Campaigners are convinced foul play was involved and accuse the police of failing to investigate fully in order to protect loyalists involved.
